Rev. Dr. Robert Grove-Markwood
The Reverend Dr. Robert Grove-Markwood is the Executive Director of The BTS Center. Bob was appointed Interim President of Bangor Theological Seminary in July of 2011, and served as President from July 2012 through June 2013. In the two years he was President, he helped lead the Seminary through a complex process of transition and reinvention culminating in the final BTS commencement exercises in June 2013.
Grove-Markwood has an extensive history with Bangor Theological Seminary, having received both M. Div. (1982) and D. Min. (2003) degrees from the Seminary. He also served as the director of admissions (January 1985-June 1987). For five years (2006-2011), he was a member of the Seminary’s Board of Trustees. He chaired both the Advancement and the Information Technology Committees during his tenure on the board.
Bob served for 25 years as the pastor of the Presque Isle (Maine) Congregational Church, United Church of Christ (1987 to 2012). In addition to involvement with the Maine Conference UCC and the Aroostook Association UCC, he was active in local community organizations. He was a founding member of the Peace and Justice Center of Northern Maine. He is a past president of the Presque Isle (Maine) Rotary Club, a Paul Harris fellow, and chaired the Rotary District 7810 World Community Service committee. He also coached the women’s soccer team for six seasons at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, and in 2016 was inducted into the school’s athletics hall of fame.
Bob is a graduate of Oberlin College (Ohio) and received a masters degree in physical educationfrom Bowling Green State University (Ohio). He served as a US Marine Corps Lieutenant from 1971-74. He is married to Susan Grove-Markwood, and they have four sons and four grandchildren.
